first_imgBy Dialogo April 22, 2011 A greeting of sympathy for my fellow countrymen, hoping and wishing a speedy solution to all the ills that afflict you, a bear hug for my countrymen, from Ecuador. A greeting to all my compatriots. Breaks my heart to see how our country is hit by this harsh winter, but I say that together we can overcome all these issues, we’re not going to give up as a good Colombian wouldn’t. I recall that some other countries admire us for our strength and courage to move forward and I am sure that this calamity is not going to beat us Colombians going forward, we will prevail beyond from now. A greeting to all our military, police, firefighters and lifeguards throughout the country that have now made history with their courage for the people of Colombia: Colombia I love you and you always carry into the depths of my soul and my heart: FROM CARACAS, VENEZUELA, TO MY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY COLOMBIA LUIS ALFONSO LOPEZ NAVARRO: COSTEÑO BUT PROUD TO BE A COLOMBIAN OVER ALL. The Colombian military is ready to collaborate in response to the emergency caused in the country by the abundant rains that are keeping much of the territory in a state of yellow alert and have left 78 dead and 28 injured this year, according to the Civil Defense Agency. “The commandant of the Army reports that his men are available to provide aid and assistance to communities affected by the winter weather pattern,” a statement made public on 20 April indicated. According to the statement, “pilots and aircraft from the Army’s Air Assault Aviation Division” are also collaborating on assistance to hundreds of those impacted by the floods that are affecting a number of towns in the country, some of which have had to be evacuated. For its part, the Navy specified that “its naval, river, and air units stand ready, as well as the human and logistical resources under its jurisdiction, to respond to the needs of the population that may be affected by the new winter weather pattern.” According to the risk management director of the Interior and Justice Ministry, Carlos Iván Márquez, the heavy rains that have fallen in the last year have impacted a total of 2,826,889 people. Speaking to reporters, the official added that the precipitation has affected 91% of the national territory, specifically, 1,000 of the country’s 1,099 municipalities. According to official figures, so far in April there have been 125 emergencies that have left 49 dead, 20 injured, and 11 missing and that have affected 19,278 individuals and 3,969 families.last_img read more
