first_imgWriddhiman Saha slammed 93* off 55 balls as Kings XI Punjab beat the the Mumbai Indians by seven runs at the Wankhede to keep their playoff hopes alive.Saha, who was promoted up the order after Hashim Amla left, started the innings with a bang along with Martin Guptill. While Guptill fell for a breezy 18-ball 36 in the sixth over, Saha continued his onslaught to bring more misery to the Mumbai bowlers. The diminutive wicket-keeper batsman hit some magnificent shots and towering sixes to keep Punjab on the front-foot throughout the innings. He brought up his fifty off just 31 balls with a massive six off Harbhajan Singh in the 12th over.Saha struck fifty run partnerships with each of his partners in Guptill, Glenn Maxwell and Shaun Marsh but all perished, failing to keep their attack going. However, he kept the momentum going and finally ended with 93 as he ran out of overs to bring up his second IPL ton.The 32-year-old hit 11 fours and three sixes in his 55-ball innings and helped Punjab post a massive score of 230/3 from their 20 overs.Talking about his new role up the order, Saha said that he is ready to bat anywhere the team asks him to.”I am ready to bat at any slot. The ultimate goal is to win for the team,” he said.Saha, who was awarded the Man-of-the-Match for his brilliant knock said that the plan was to go hard right from the word go.”Our job was to go hard in the first six overs and the plan was to rotate strike if we did not get big shots. We had the momentum so Maxwell too asked me to go for shots. Once we got 100 in 8 overs, we always wanted to cross 200. We thought 220 was a par score,” he said.advertisementWhen asked about the plan during the last over and his mindset in such situations, he said that the goal is to get hold of anything that comes his way.”Pollard was a touch tired so yorkers were good options. Mohit tried his knuckle balls but when it did not work, he switched back to yorkers.” When boundaries are being hit, I anyway do not get to keep balls. The only goal was to gather whatever came my way.”The Punjab keeper signed off by saying that they will give their all in the next game as they chase a playoff spot.”We have nothing to lose, we will give it all in our next game. We would like to replicate our performance from the last two games,”  he signed off.Punjab next play the Rising Pune Supergiant in their last game at Mohali on Sunday, May 14.last_img read more
